NATURAL CORK STILL TOP DOG

A day doesn’t go by when I don’t read something about wine closure alternatives or the increase in screwcaps or synthetics. It’s true that non-cork closures are taking the industry by storm while synthetic corks lead the alternatives category, but natural corks remain the most popular and frequently used stopper. An overwhelming majority (82%) of responding wineries use natural corks, according to Wine Business. Technical and synthetic closures make up 26% and 28% while screwcaps come in last at 24%.
