The beer industry has had a terrible first half by all accounts. In the latest 4-week period, food channel beer volumes fell by -3.4% following a -4.2% decline last month, according to IRI. And the losses are accelerating as the chart below demonstrates. One heartening note is that soft drinks and snacks are also very soft, which may indicate all around channel softness rather than a sick beer category. Perhaps sky high gas prices have also cut into disposal income
