Tough April

The Beer Institute's Lester Jones estimates that April domestic beer shipments were down 3.4% or 518k barrels against an easy comparison, bringing year-to-date shipments down 816k barrels or 1.4%. With imports that makes the US beer business just about flat for the year. Symphony IRI scan volumes for off-premise is down 1.8% year-to-date. Bottom line: with fuel prices hitting $4 a gallon, it looks like we're going into Memorial Day without much momentum. SIG pricing is healthy though, with average prices per case up 51 cents
