Flat is the New Up

While we sometimes report scan data and shipments, we got to sneek a peek at more drill-down into half year shipment data from the Beer Institute presented by Lester Jones at the spanking new Trump Towers in Chicago yesterday, and as he put it, "all things considered, it's not that bad" (the trends, not the hotel -- hotel was great). For one thing, while the industry is down about a million barrels so far this year, we are one selling day short, and that represents about 800k barrels. For another, to be flat in this economy is a victory: "flat is the new up," as distributor Kevin Burke wryly put it .
