When in Amsterdam last month, I stayed at the Heineken-owned Hotel de L'Europe, which had just completed an extensive renovation, going from a dowdy old school classical decor to a more modern architecture, with bold bright colors and even -- to my great disorientation -- moving the famed Freddy's Bar to a new location in the lobby (though I was assured was a temporary move, to my relief)
