Dear Client:BBD spoke with about a dozen players in the beer business on Friday and throughout the weekend, mostly off-record, about the Beer Institute's surprising press release which ended its year-long dialog with the National Beer Wholesalers Association regarding the possibility of federal legislation which would offer distributors some degrees of protection against a variety of threats. Needless to say, brewer - distributor relations aren't hunky dory. Having said that, nobody we talked to on either side seemed overly bitter
