August Domestic Shipments Down 7.7% After Summer Sales Surge “Did not Materialize”

Dear Client:  If you thought beer’s July domestic shipment showing wasn't great (-3.5%), brace for August: The Beer Institute reports that August domestic shipments were down 7.7% for the month, at 13 million barrels. The number brings domestic production to down 3.2% YTD through August.  August’s domestic shipments trend was the second worst showing for the year so far, after March’s trend of -13.6%.
