Open Mic Monday: Blue Moon
We received lots of feedback on our piece debating whether Blue Moon was good for the craft beer category or not. Here is a sampling of the arguments submitted:"Regarding Blue Moon, I would say that you made the case well for how it does increase the number of drinkers that come into the category. But it does siphon authenticity from the category when people do not put their name on it. In some ways it reminds me of the contract brewing discussions of 15 years ago. Blue Moon leverages the consumers' emotional attachment to local small batch brewing, and capitalizes on economies of scale in advertising, production and chain account shelf setting, in ways that actual small brewers cannot. Why does this matter?
