Bell’s Brewery Sues Distributor Doesn’t Want Brands to end up in A-B House

Larry Bell and his namesake brewery Bell's Brewery of Michigan is suing his local distributor in Kalamazoo, Classic Wines, seeking a declaratory judgment to prevent that company from selling the distribution rights of Bell's to M&M Distributors, the local A-B distributor. Bell's claims that it has the right to approve the transfer based on its distributor agreement. "Based on the exercise of its reasonable business judgment, Bell's has concluded that M&M does not meet the material and reasonable qualifications and standards required by Bell's," says Bell's in its complaint. Classic Wines, on the other hand, contends that Bell's is obligated to consent to the transfer based in Michigan law.
